Towards detecting programmers’ stress on the basis of keystroke dynamics

Abstract: Abstract-The article describes the idea of detecting stress among programmers on the basis of keystroke dynamics. An experiment with a group of students of artificial intelligence classes was performed. Two samples of keystroke data were recorded for each case, the first while programming without stress, the second under time pressure. A number of timing and frequency parameters were calculated for each sample. Then statistical analysis was performed to evaluate the significance of keystroke parameters changes… Show more

“…Previous studies have collected behavioral data from computer, keystroke, and mouse dynamics such as interaction time, typing pressure, and mouse clicking, but mostly under laboratory conditions [21][22][23][24][25]. The majority of real-life stress-detection studies have been based on behavioral data gathered from smartphones [26][27][28][29][30][31][32].…”

“…A careful analysis of the existing studies ( [7]) evidences that attention can be detected via various mechanisms including keystroke dynamics [8] and pupillography [9]; however EEG provide in general the most accurate results among the approaches that are feasible to use [10][11][12][13][14][15].…”
