The happiness and mental health of individuals are crucial for national developments. In Saudi Arabia, wellbeing occupies a central position in Vision 2030, along with women’s empowerment. Rapidly changing rights and responsibilities might result in more sources of stress. The aim of this study was to explore happiness and mental health among Saudi women during their contributions to a fast-growing nation in all fields. We assessed happiness and mental health (somatic symptoms, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and social dysfunction) in 308 Saudi women aged 15–50 years using a self-administered online survey comprising the short Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ-8) and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28). The participants demonstrated general satisfaction yet showed rising psychological distress. Married women reported better mental health compared to single women, particularly with regards to anxiety, insomnia, and depression. Depression was highest among younger women. Employed women demonstrated lower social functioning compared to unemployed women. Women with a higher educational level showed lower social functioning. Happiness scores were significantly and inversely related with overall mental health scores as well as mental health subscales (somatic, anxiety, and depression), except for social dysfunction, which showed a positive correlation to happiness scores. This study contributes to the body of literature on women’s mental health and happiness by providing recommendations for improving both as well as directions for future research.

The concept of "quality of life" (QoL) encompasses all aspects of people's standard of living, including economic, social, or health-related factors, as well as their perceptions of their own lives. Although the growing application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques in processing and modeling the diverse datasets associated with these domains, there remains a significant challenge in addressing different issues in QoL area of research and in fully harnessing these technologies to improve QoL research outcomes. Despite the technological advancements, current research endeavors often overlook the complex, multifaceted nature of QoL study. This oversight results in fragmented insights and leaves significant areas underexplored. In this work, we conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) to investigate the contribution of AI to QoL studies. For this, we collected 68 research works published between 2008 and 2022. This review covers a range of research questions about the objectives and methods of studies on QoL, the sources and types of data utilized, and the advancements made through the application of natural language processing (NLP), ML, deep learning (DL), statistical models, and semantic approaches. The goal of this review is to tackle the prevalent ambiguity in QoL dimensions, synthesize the research findings, and highlight the contributions, advancements, and most innovative approaches in the field. Moreover, we identify gaps and limitations in the current literature and suggest potential areas for future research, aiming to inspire more cohesive and comprehensive approaches to studying QoL using AI and ML techniques.

Studying people’s opinions is a growing research field. This area of research is known as sentiment analysis. The COVID-19 pandemic changed everything around the world and reduced social contact among people. Citizens and residents of Saudi Arabia experienced high stress during the pandemic, seeking entertainment via games and publishing their activities on social media platforms such as Twitter. In this paper, we focus on applying the Mazajak sentiment analyzer on tweets containing game keywords in Arabic collected using Twitter API during the lockdown period to decide whether users preferred playing individually or in groups. This can help designers and developers, as well as the Saudi General Entertainment Authority (GEA), focus on creating the most interesting games for individuals and improving them to meet users’ expectations. Our approach has three main stages: tweet collection, tweet preparation, and finally, the application of sentiment analysis to get the desired goal based on people’s behavior toward the games. The result of this paper confirms that people, in general, preferred playing in groups, instead of alone, during this period.
