Towards Practical and Synthetical Modelling of Repairable Systems

Abstract: In this article, we survey the developments with respect to generalized models of repairable systems during the 1990s, particularly for the last five years. In this field, we notice the sharp fundamental problem that voluminous and complicated models are proposed without sufficient evidence (or data) for justifying a success in tackling real engineering problems. Instead of following the myth of using simple models to face complicated reality, and based on our own research experiences, we select and review som… Show more

“…Guo et al [19] surveyed developments with respect to generalized models of repairable systems and pointed out the problem of there being a plethora of complex analytical models being proposed without sufficient evidence of success in tackling real engineering problems. In various engineering problems, the binary state assumption in conventional reliability theory is not extensively acceptable, and thus the fuzzy state assumption should be used to replace the binary state assumption [1,5,9,14,29,34].…”

“…Abdel-Hameed (1978) suggested an age dependent minimal repair model where the failed system is replaced with probability p(t) and minimally repaired with probability 1 − p(t). Finally, Guo et al (2001) give a state of the art overview of the field and address future directions of research. Beichelt (1997Beichelt ( , 2001) introduced the total repair cost limit replacement policy, where the system is replaced as soon as its total repair cost Brought to you by | Florida International University Libraries Authenticated Download Date | 5/29/15 10:28 PM reaches or exceeds a given level.…”
