Towards Study of UV-C Radiation Effect on Earthworms and Isopods Via Electron Microscopy

Abstract: Background and Objective: Ultraviolet (UV)radiation is the most significant modifiable risk factor for eye and skin disorders especially skin cancer, atrophy, pigment shifts, and wrinkling in many living organisms. So, this study is based on the detection of the cumulative effects of UV-C radiation on the earthworms (as an alternative model for human skin) and isopods (as an alternative model for the eye) coupled with scanning electron microscopic analysis (SEM). This study was designed for the assessment of h… Show more

“…In vivo wound healing effect of PsEAE in earthworm model. As we mentioned previously, earthworms are a successful model for assessing wound healing properties of bioactive compounds because their structure mimics human skin features [25][26][27] . There is no mortality observed during the experiment up to 20 days.…”

“…The earthworm has a similar triene and tetraene as compared to human skin. It has been used previously as a successful model to assess the wound healing efficacy of some nanoformulations [25][26][27] . We used histological examination, scanning electron microscopy 28 , and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to evaluate the healing properties of PsEAE on the induced wounds in the tissues.…”

“…Availability of food, which contains a high percentage of protein, and availability of natural medical treatments Its life cycle is short (Pelosi et al, 2014). It also represents a strong model for human skin structure because it is similar to the composition of human skin (Abd Ellah et al, 2019;Abd El-Aziz & Ali, 2021, Abd El-Aziz et al, 2022Salem et al, 2022). They are not intermediate hosts for parasites that infect humans, nor are they nuisance pests (Cooper et al 2012).…”
