Towards Sustainable Health Systems

Abstract

Numerous challenges are being faced by the healthcare system of Pakistan. It lacks universal access to quality healthcare, an inadequate supply of healthcare human resources, and healthcare sector inconsistencies. Incorporating the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) in Pakistan can be a possible solution to tackle most of these problems. SDI is a platform that organizes and centralizes geographical information, such as the population, the placement of healthcare facilities, and disease incidence. By employing SDI, these challenges may be met efficiently by the planners. When implemented, spatial data infrastructure can support optimizing human resource development, investment in resources, and evidence-based decision-making. Furthermore, SDI can ensure the delivery of actual and timely information to stakeholders thus enhancing the aspect of accountability. This chapter discussed how SDI can help in coping with relative issues concerning the Pakistani health sector and thereby presented a way of creating a sustainable healthcare sector.
