appreciative I am of him. You accepted me into your lab and have been there to encourage me, teach me, give criticism, and most importantly step back to let me become an independent scientist. Without you none of this work would have been possible and I wouldn't be where I am at today. I would also like to thank all the current and past Doorn lab members for your daily input and encouragement. To the many friends I have made along the way from classmates, to collaborators, to volleyball friends I give a huge thank you. You have all been there to support me in so many ways throughout my time here. Specifically, I want to give a special thank you to Christopher Bodle and Chaitanya Kulkarni. You have been so much more then classmates and truly are lifelong friends.
