“…MPs pose a unique challenge owing to their resistance to degradation, their potential absorption by plant roots, and their subsequent transport to aboveground parts. Remediation approaches may involve immobilizing or extracting MPs from soils to aboveground plant structures (Li et al, 2023). Although root immobilization may not eliminate all MPs, it can limit their mobility and accessibility and thus reduce their over ecological impacts and risks.…”

“…Additionally, the adsorption of MPs by plants may influence plant metabolism through enzymatic actions, potentially leading to the transformation of MPs into plant biomass or inorganic products, such as CO 2 and CH 4 . A comprehensive understanding of these processes, particularly their impacts on different C pools within ecosystems, is crucial for future research on MP phytoremediation systems(Li et al, 2023). Incorporating biodegradable plastics, which are considered safe and easily degraded by microbes, along with responsible waste management, presents potential solutions for MP and NP pollution.…”

“…Indeed, researchers have reported that priming wheat seeds with zinc ions or zinc oxide nanoparticles can effectively decrease the accumulation of Cd in grains grown in Cd-contaminated alkaline fields. , However, the molecular and metabolic mechanisms associated with seed priming remain poorly understood . Generally, the absorption of Cd by roots is facilitated through the transporters or channels that have evolved to absorb essential metals such as copper (Cu), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), and manganese (Mn) . Previous work reported that by utilizing essential nutrients, like Zn and Mn, the buildup of Cd in plants can be reduced because of the competition between Cd and these nutrients for the same membrane transporters. Moreover, seed priming can induce stress and immune responses by increasing the production of signal- and defense-related metabolites and genes, resulting in a prompt and robust defense mechanism against potential stresses .…”
