Traffic Intersection Lane Control Using Radio Frequency Identification and 5G Communication

Abstract: This article deals with automated urban traffic management, and proposes a new comprehensive infrastructure solution for dynamic traffic direction switching at intersection lines. It was assumed that the currently used solutions based on video monitoring are unreliable. Therefore, the Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technique was introduced, in which vehicles are counted and, if necessary, identified in order to estimate the flows on individual lanes. The data is acquired in real time using fifth-generat… Show more

“…Concepts for managing multiple UAVs are expected to be translated to 5G networks. Furthermore, maintenanceheavy hardware solutions in ITS, like RFID sensors in every lane (Paszkiewicz et al, 2021), will be replaced by exact 5G positioning. A 5G solution also reflects rising resource scarcity and the importance of sustainable solutions.…”

“…5G is used to overcome the latency while assigning free parking places and to improve the accuracy of the vehicle size Mukhopadhyay and Samanta (2021). also describe a smart parking lot model motivated by the low latency and high bandwidth of 5G Paszkiewicz et al (2021). propose an urban infrastructure that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sensors to track the number of vehicles in each lane of an intersection.…”
