“…The browning degree of mushrooms packaged in PBAT film containing 5% SB was the smallest among all mushrooms at Day 15 of storage, the L* value of which was 81.23 compared to the 75.08 for mushrooms packaged in pure PBAT film. This result may have something to do with the certain antibacterial activity of SB, which could restrain microbial growth to slow down the browning of mushrooms (Liu et al, 2019;Nasiri et al, 2017). It was also consistent with Figure 6d that PBAT film containing 5% SB has the lowest TVC value.…”

“…The values of a* (red/green), b* (yellow/blue), and L* (light/dark) were measured at three points of the cap. The browning index (BI), which indicates the extent of browning of the mushrooms (Nasiri et al., 2017), was calculated based on the following equation:BI=100(x0.31)0.172,wherex=a+1.75L5.645L+a3.012b…”

“…The best kind of gum was obtained from a local shop, washed, dried, milled, and determined the optimum concentration of gum solution (0.6%), and ten different treatments were prepared based on Nasiri, Barzegar, Sahari, & Niakousari, : (a) control (C, water washed, without coating); (b) Tragacanth gum coating (T); (c) gum coatings containing 100 mg/L S (TS1), (d) 500 mg/L S (TS5), (e) 1,000 mg/L S (TS10); (f) gum coatings containing 100 mg/L Z (TZ1), (g) 500 mg/L Z (TZ5), (h) 1,000 mg/L Z (TZ10); (i) 1,000 mg/L sodium metabisulfite (M); and (j) gum coating containing 1,000 mg/L metabisulfite (TM). They were placed in polyethylene (HDPE) containers and were kept for 16 days at 4 ± 1°C and 95% RH pending further analysis, and every 4 days, three replicates from each treatment group were analyzed.…”
