Training Effectiveness and Return on Investment

Abstract: In today’s research and development, and training communities, return on investment (ROI) and training effectiveness (TE) are critical factors that need to be considered up-front, during, and post deployment of a training technology/platform or program. In the past, TE may have been viewed as a construct separate to ROI; however, today, viewing TE in the same sentence as ROI has been accentuated. Panelists will discuss current and/or past experiences with TE and/or ROI. Perspectives from the military, training… Show more

“…Evidence about CPD effectiveness is still limited as practitioners themselves are often unable to articulate the impact of their CPD activity, which undermines confidence in the value of investing in CPD ( Moriarty and Manthorpe, 2014 ). Effectiveness of training substantiates its value ( Moss et al, 2016 ). It is thus crucial to understand what effective CPD is to get an insight into its worth.…”

“…The prime difficulty in measuring the ROI of military training is that the most important benefits are difficult to estimate (Moss et al, 2016 ). While many costs associated with training are tangible easily calculated, other costs are intangible and difficult to estimate such as lives that are lost, wear and tear on equipment, and training opportunities and efficiencies that are missed.…”

“…This entails nurses engaging in continuous skills renewal to match changes in health care needs and their complexity; it enables nurses to familiarise themselves with new models of delivering care to meet the public expectations of nursing care (Filipe, Silva, Stultin & Golnik, 2014). Continuing education can also give nurses an edge when attempting to rise to higher ranks of health care settings (Moss, Brimstin, Champney, DeCostanza, Fletcher & Goodwin, 2016).…”
