Our study related to the renal toxicity of Wistar rats induced by solutions of amphotericin B prepared under extreme conditions of pH (5.4 and 10.8). The results obtained show that with pH 5.4 of stock solution, urea and creatinin rate blood is not disturbed. These means that the renal function is not deteriorated by the amphotericin B. Furthers, treatment of animals infected by the yeast Candida albicans, with the solution of amphotericin B prepared at pH 5.4 and injected at 0.5 mg of AmB/Kg every 24 hours, seems to be effective

The incidence of Candida infections has increased in the last decade, posing a serious threat to public health. Appropriately facing this challenge requires precise epidemiological data on species and antimicrobial resistance incidence, but many countries lack appropriate surveillance programs. This study aims to bridge this gap for Morocco by identifying and phenotyping a year-long collection of clinical isolates (n = 93) from four clinics in Tetouan. We compared the current standard in species identification with molecular methods and assessed susceptibility to fluconazole and anidulafungin. Our results identified limitations in currently used diagnostics approaches, and revealed that C. albicans ranks as the most prevalent species with 60 strains (64.52%), followed by C. glabrata with 14 (15.05%), C. parapsilosis with 6 (6.45%), and C. tropicalis with 4 (4.30%). In addition, we report the first identification of C. metapsilosis in Morocco. Susceptibility results for fluconazole revealed that some isolates were approaching MICs resistance breakpoints in C. albicans (2), and C. glabrata (1). Our study also identified anidulafungin resistant strains in C. albicans (1), C. tropicalis (1), and C. krusei (2), rendering the two strains from the latter species multidrug-resistant due to their innate resistance to fluconazole. These results raise concerns about species identification and antifungal resistance in Morocco and highlight the urgent need for more accurate methods and preventive strategies to combat fungal infections in the country.

This paper focuses on determining the antifungal potential of plants traditionally used to treat infections. Five (5) plants were collected. The anti-Candida albicans activity was evaluated by the double dilution method in tilted tubes with the aqueous and hydroethanolic extracts of the different plants. The results showed that 70% ethanolic extracts were more active than the aqueous extracts for all the plants. The 70% ethanolic extract of Terminalia ivorensis (MFC = 1.56 mg/mL) was the most active on the tested strain. This was followed by Terminalia Superba (MFC = 3.125 mg/mL), Distemonanthus benthamianus (MFC = 50 mg/mL), Gmelina arborea (MFC= 50 mg/mL), and Justicia secunda (MFC ˃ 50 mg/mL). The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of seven (7) major groups of compounds. Saponosides are present only in the aqueous extracts of plants. Polyphenols, Flavonoids, Polyterpenes, and Sterols as well as Tanins are present in both alcoholic and aqueous extracts. These compounds could justify its activity and its traditional use. The interesting results obtained with the hydroethanolic extract of Terminalia ivorensis incite further research with this extract. A bio-guided study on the fractions from this extract could lead to the discovery of one or more molecules of interest in the fight against pathogenic fungi.
