“…Trans‐catheter arterial duct (AD) closure is a well‐established treatment in infants, children, and adults, although it still remains challenging in particular settings . Over time, several technical and procedural advances have been introduced as the multiple coil approach and the newest devices of the Amplatzer Duct Occluder family (St. Jude Medical Corp, St. Paul, MN, USA) . Among these latter, the Amplatzer Duct Occluder II Additional Sizes (ADO II‐AS) has been modified to be implanted by small delivery systems as well as to avoid protrusion into aorta or left pulmonary artery .…”

“…We assumed approximately half of the 49% of CRS cases with CHD required surgery (i.e., 25% of all CRS cases), 40% of the 50% of CRS cases with eye defects required surgery (i.e., 20% of all CRS cases), and all of the 35% of CRS cases with intellectual disability required special education and institutional care for retardation. Although the treatment of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) changed dramatically over time, with corresponding improvements in outcomes, these changes did not apparently reduce costs, which led us to use the inflated estimate for CHD surgery costs with no additional modification. For low‐income countries, we estimate the cost of CHD surgery based on a study from India while it qualified as a low‐income country and for eye surgery based on studies of cataract surgery in Nepal and India .…”

“…With the introduction of trans-catheter occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), measurement of the size of the ductus has become important in the choice of the device size for implantation; angiographic minimal ductal diameter is used in the device size selection [25][26][27]. Nonetheless, the selection of subjects for percutaneous closure of PDA is mostly on the basis of echo-Doppler study results during the clinical assessment.…”
