“…Meanwhile, 27,975 unigenes (41.61%) were annotated in at least one database (Table S3, ESM 3). This annotation rate was similar to that of previously reported transcriptomes (Cheng et al, 2020; Yang et al, 2021) and higher than that reported in other crustacean species, such as Portunus trituberculatus (Liu et al, 2019a), Eriocheir sinensis (Luo et al, 2021a), and Macrobrachium rosenbergii (Jiang et al, 2019). The number of successfully annotated unigenes was 17,821 in NR (26.50%), 7268 in NT (10.81%), 7192 in KO (10.69%), 11,127 in SwissProt (16.55%), 20,592 in PFAM (30.62%), 20,589 in GO (30.62%), and 6174 in KOG (9.18%) (ESM 3).…”

“…Lysosomes are related to the hydrolysis of vitellogenin and energy demand during Macrobrachium nipponense ovarian maturation [41]. Lysosomal enzymes, especially cathepsin B and L, are associated with ovarian development in crustaceans [42,43]. We also found that cathepsin B and L in the ovaries of E. carinicauda were significantly up−regulated in response to carbonate alkalinity stress, which was consistent with the above results.…”

“…In Tanner crabs, exposure to high pCO 2 during oogenesis had substantial negative carryover effect on both embryos [12] and the subsequent larvae [47]. High pCO 2 causes changes to gene expression and disrupts oocyte development in Chinese mitten crabs, Eriocheir sinensis suggesting direct effects on oogenesis could be a mechanism for these carryover effect [60]. Alternatively, high pCO 2 could simply increase the energy requirement to maintain homeostasis and thus decrease the energy available for other processes [61] including reproduction.…”
