“…Although endometritis caused by other organisms such as Klebsiella species and streptococci has been recognised for many years, the condition observed clinically and associated with the bacterium described here was reported in 1977 for the first time in the United Bordetella, 61-68 per cent GC (Pittman, 1974); Kingella, 47-55 per cent GC (Snell and Lapage, 1976); this is a new genus, proposed by Henriksen and Bovre (1976) for catalase negative, oxidase positive, weakly saccharolytic organisms previously contained in the genus Moraxella; Eikenella, 56 per cent GC (Snell and Lapage, 1976); Cardiobacterium, 59-60 per cent G C (Snell and Lapage, 1976) ; Branhamella, 42-47 per cent GC (Snell and Lapage, 1976).…”

“…Moraxella' Bijsterveld (Bijsterveld, 1970; Bsvre et a/., 1974~) is now named Kingella indologenes (Snell & Lapage, 1976), and the tentatively named M. urethralis (Lautrop, Bsvre & Frederiksen, 1970) forms a separate taxonomic group. Most of the test strains have been studied in earlier taxonomic investigations (Barvre et a/.…”

“…N. elongata and K. denitrificans are non‐motile Gram‐negative coccobacilli indistinguishable from each other on microscopy. After incubation for 24 h, both taxa grew on blood and chocolate agar without CO 2 , but not on bromothymol blue lactose agar. After incubation for 24 h on blood agar, N. elongata colonies were mucoid yellowish‐white with a diameter of 1.5–3 mm, while colonies of K. denitrificans were non‐mucoid with a diameter of 0.5–0.75 mm.…”

“…N. elongata subsp. nitroreducens and K. denitrificans are Gram‐negative coccobacilli that may be difficult to differentiate from each other [4,5]. This was highlighted in our reference laboratory, where we, within the last few years, have received four blood culture isolates of N. elongata subsp.…”
