Labor and postpartum are critical phases in the birth process, where coordinated work between midwives and health personnel is essential to ensure the well-being of both the mother and the newborn. Throughout history, midwives have played a fundamental role, especially in rural areas or with limited access to medical services, and complement the work of health professionals. The present study aims to integrate the ancestral practices of midwives with modern medicine to improve maternal and neonatal care. The mixed methodology was used, with an approach that allowed combining qualitative and quantitative elements and a survey was applied to 4 midwives. As a result, the integration of ancestral practices of midwives with modern medicine can significantly improve the quality of maternal and neonatal care, especially in rural areas and indigenous communities, where midwives play a central role. It was concluded that it is necessary to implement intercultural birth rooms and the certification of midwives by the Ministry of Public Health, in addition to the training of health personnel in humanized birth protocols and in the customs of indigenous communities
