Transición del Proceso de Acreditación de un Programa de Ingeniería: desde ICACIT hacia ABET

Abstract

Today, higher level institutions, specifically universities, are very interested in demonstrating that the academic and administrative processes carried out as part of the educational service they offer meet quality standards, which are verified based on accreditation model taken as a reference. As a result of this verification process carried out by external peer evaluators, it is guaranteed that this service is relevant, adequate and above all responds to the needs of the environment in which the educational institution operates. In this sense, the present work aims to present the experience carried out at the Professional School of Systems Engineering of the National University of San Agustín, whose accreditation process was initially framed in the ICACIT model, and later adopted the ABET model. Therefore, the aim is to describe the processes carried out in this transition from one model to another, and the relevant aspects that were considered, so that the continuous improvement process can be optimised through two iterations, each applying one of the two accreditation models. The results obtained are very good as we are officially immersed in the ABET accreditation process. We conclude that applying an accreditation model that is suitable for the professional career and that obtains the most appropriate benefits for the students and the institution leads us to achieve the objectives set.
