Transient Analysis of a Synchronous Generator Using a High-Order State Space Representation

Abstract: A state-space representation of a Synchronous generator is established and used to analyze the transient behavior of a Synchronous Generator. The machine is a 2 pole, 150 MVA, 120 MW, 13.8 kV, 50 Hz generator connected to an infinite bus through a transformer and a transmission line. The state-space representation is based on a two-axis equivalentcircuit model of the generator and includes the swing equation and the voltage regulator. The two-axis representation of the infinite bus voltage is chosen as refer… Show more

“…The stability of power systems after a fault or sudden load mostly depends on the behavior of the alternators feeding the system. For this reason, it is necessary to examine the behavior of power system stabilizers during their steady-state operation as well as in response to sudden loads and faults [1][2][3][4][5][6][7].…”

“…There have been a lot of researches, including automatic control of voltage and speed of energy transformation in synchronous generators [4][5][6]. The behavior of the alternators feeding the electrical system has a serious effect on the stability of power system in a fault situation [7,8].…”
