Transient dynamics of an axially moving beam subject to continuously distributed moving mass

Abstract: In this paper, the transverse vibrations of an axially moving cantilever beam subject to a continuously distributed moving mass is studied numerically. An elastic coupling coefficient is introduced to describe the actual elastic coupling effect between the beam and moving mass. The motion equations of the system are derived by Lagrange’s equation and Galerkin method. The Newmark-beta direct time integrating method is adopted to analyze the dynamic responses. The motion equations are verified by comparing the d… Show more

“…The analysis of the vibration characteristics of special beams focuses on the following aspects: the correction of the dynamic differential solution method, extended based on the variational principle [45,46]; sensitivity analysis under coupling constraint and time-varying geometric characteristics [47]; the beam characteristic analysis of feature abstraction [48][49][50]; and coupling analysis based on structural correlation characteristics [51][52][53].…”

“…The transverse response in terms of bifurcation and resonance for a moving ferromagnetic plate was presented by Cao and Hu [14]. The transverse response of a moving cantilever beam under the effect of distributed mass was numerically investigated in [15]. Through the analysis, the phenomena of energy separation were observed.…”
