Transient Thermodynamic Modeling of a Scroll Compressor Using R22 Refrigerant

Abstract: In this work, we investigated the transient analysis model for the performance of a scroll compressor. A transient model was developed based on the geometry of the scroll and relevant thermodynamic relations. In particular, the mass and energy conservation equations were transformed to yield pressure and temperature variations over time, respectively. As a result, the transient behavior of the refrigerant was predicted in terms of these two parameters, and the values for the suction and discharge processes had… Show more

“…Literature [11] constructed a thermodynamic model of an oil-free compressor, using the Euler method to solve the variation laws of various performance parameters in the compression chamber, developed variable speed performance testing, and analyzed the impact of heat transfer and leakage on performance parameters. Literature [12,13] established transient performance analysis models and thermodynamic models for leakage areas based on the thermodynamic principles and geometric shapes of vortex compressors. Stevanovic [14] and others focused on the performance and reliability issues of vortex compressors, where a numerical model of the rotor-bearing-frame system was established through the coupling of the Reynolds equation, rotor dynamics equations, and frame flexibility equations, optimizing the profile of the vortex compressor.…”

“…The development of geometry theory contributes to the scroll machine predesign accuracy and efficiency [27]. Further, to evaluate the performance of the predesigned prototype, several types of research approaches have been adapted including experiments [28,29], thermodynamic modeling [30,31], and CFD simulation modeling of dimensions 1D [32,33], 2D [34,35], and 3D [36,37]. Due to the nonignorable consumption of time and experimental materials, researches of scroll machine experiments were very few.…”

“…Many works on scroll compressors or expanders use a mathematical model that is generally virtualised with a low-level programming language. Among them, some use a geometrical approach [11][12][13][14][15] while others use semi-empirical methods [16][17][18]. Some details of one work for each group are briefly illustrated below.…”
