Today, the circular economy is regarded as a promising alternative for modern economies to preserve “virgin” natural resources for future generations by valorizing waste materials. The concept is also used to promote the goals of sustainable development, where, apart from the environmental dimension, the economic and social dimensions are also integrated. So far, the largest part of the related research has emphasized the environmental and economic dimensions, while little attention has been paid to the social dimension of circular economy. Thus, this paper develops a framework to evaluate the social impacts of circular products and materials throughout their life cycle, which is based on social life thinking, circular economy principles and strategies and social responsibility principles. Moreover, computational examples are presented to show the functionality and applicability of the proposed framework. Finally, critical points for future research are pinpointed in order to assist scholars in applying and improving such frameworks through case studies, helping them to better understand the social aspects of circular economy.

The purpose of the work is to analyze the possibilities of implementing the principles of closed-loop economics in the fisheries industry of the Russian Federation, including for achieving national goals.Methods: A SWOT analysis was carried out to assess the waste management situation in the specified industry and to identify the prerequisites for the introduction of the principles of the closed-cycle economy. Monographic, comparative and descriptive methods are used for analyzing of information sources.Novelty: the identification of opportunities and threats for the formation of closed cycles of circulation of raw materials and waste in fisheries systems are the novelty elements of the presented research.Results: the necessity of transition from a linear economy to a closed-loop economy in the analyzed industry in the light of achieving the national goals of the Russian Federation is revealed, the necessary steps for this are shown. The conclusion is made about the significance of such a transition for the Russian Federation.The results of the study are of practical significance both for biologists, managers, economists, and for the business community.

Circularity in waste management: a research proposal to achieve the 2030 Agenda

Waste management is the main challenge in the transition away from the linear "take-make-dispose" economy. Incorporating the principles of circularity in waste management would facilitate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. This paper aims to provide state-of-the-art research about circular waste management in the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda. For this purpose, bibliometric analysis by VOSviewer and SciMat software is used to define the evolution and to detect research trends. Based on the main gaps identified in studies, a research agenda to guide for further opportunities in this field is suggested. The results obtained four clusters that address sustainable industrial infrastructure, biological waste management, recycling in developing countries and recovery processes. Four research propositions are established, focusing on plastic waste management and generation trends, circular municipal waste management, more sustainable landfill management, and enablers such as indicators and legislation. The transformation towards more bio and ecological models requires social, regulatory and organizational tools that consider the best interests and capacity of companies, public authorities and consumers. In addition, policy implications are considered.
