Transition toward green economy: Technological Innovation's role in the fashion industry

The choice of cleaner production practices within the supply chain can improve the textile industry's environmental, financial, and operational advantages. The objective of this study is to evaluate smart environmental management practices (SEMPs) for minimizing the pollution load (energy waste, water consumption, wastewater generation, and chemical waste) within the supply chain in five textile production units of Lahore, Faisalabad (Punjab), and Karachi (Sindh) in Pakistan and to assist and get comprehensive knowledge on resource saving through cleaner production techniques. A multi-criteria decisionmaking method was used to identify the possibilities and use for cleaner production and SEMPs. A total of 36 SEMPs have been recorded with three benchmarking levels based on investment and business priority: i) low/no-cost high return, ii) high-cost high return, and iii) medium-cost medium return. After an initial assessment, SEMPs were implemented and post-assessments were conducted after gap of months. It was found that about 1.3 million m 3 of water was saved which constituted up 21% of the total water consumption. Moreover, 34,600 tons of chemicals and 1,441,500 kWh energy were also saved. This resource saving also helped industries save 0.792 million USD. Using the SEMPs proposed in this article, the annual GHG emission was significantly reduced for industries where the potential varied from 200 to 8,500 tons of CO 2 for different industries.

The footwear industry’s transition to a circular economy is a essential for sustainable development. The emerging recycled shoe production may lead to sustainable consumption in the footwear industry. Consumers are now more cognizant of the negative effects of their shopping choices. We studied the factors influencing consumers’ intentions of buying recycled shoes. We applied the theory of reasoned action (TRA) and the theory of planned behaviour (TPB). As this is an emerging trend, there is a dearth of sufficient literature regarding sustainable recycled shoe purchase behaviour. We aimed to fill this broad gap with this empirical research. We found that perceived environmental knowledge, subjective norms, sustainable label awareness, and shoe choice motives influenced attitude, and attitude, word of mouth, and environmental consciousness shaped purchase intentions. Sustainable label awareness, shoe surplus, and purchase intentions affected purchase behaviour. The study is beneficial for policymakers and managers of companies for making decisions related to footwear product positioning and targeting.

Current status and research trends of textile wastewater treatments—A bibliometric-based study

While introducing new technology has completely transformed the textile production process, the rapid pace of massive industrialization has increased the volume of wastewater, which is highly hazardous. Even though the textile industry is essential to our economy, the textile industry is harmful to the environment because of the production of wastewater, solid wastes, air pollutants, noise, etc. Recycling textile wastewater is crucial, and oxidation, physical, biological, and physicochemical methods can be used to treat textile wastewater. Based on statistics and visualization tools, bibliometric analysis has evolved to demonstrate a given topic’s knowledge structures and developmental tendencies. Here we provide a bibliometric analysis focused on textile wastewater treatment from 1990 to 2022. Raw data was retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) database and mapped using VOSviewer and biblioshiny. Textile, wastewater, and treatment were keywords. We retrieved 8,170 documents, 1,138 sources published these documents, a 22.7% annual increase, where 21458 authors published these documents with an average citation rate of 33.2%, and there were 6,680 research articles and 462 review articles. DESALINATION AND WATER TREATMENT stayed on top with 422 publications. We discovered that DONGHUA UNIVERSITY ranks first with 330 publications. Though China took first place with a total of 43961 citations, followed by India with a total of 33953 citations, from a total of 120 countries participating in this research, the research work of CRINI G and coworkers was most cited globally. The most common term was wastewater, which occurred 3,144 times, followed by textile, which appeared 2,669 times. We expect this research to be a significant resource for scholars by comprehensively describing the current state and future directions of textile wastewater treatment.
