Translation and validation of the Arabic version of the Boston carpal tunnel syndrome questionnaire

Abstract: Objectives: To translate and validate the Arabic version of the Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire)BCTQ-A(. Methods: We recruited consecutive patients with carpal tunnel syndrome)CTS(. Reliability was assessed with Cronbach α, reproducibility with intraclass correlation coefficients, construct validity with factor analysis, and responsiveness post carpal tunnel release)CTR(with the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. “…Also, we examined the reliability of the Danish BCTQ using ICC, SEM, MDC and Cronbach's alpha. The ICC has also been examined in the Iranian, Polish, Arabic and Chinese validations of the BCTQ 7 , 10 , 22 , 23 with ICC's ranging from 0.77 in the Iranian to 0.89 in the Arabic FSS, and from 0.54 in the Iranian to 0.88 in the Arabic SSS. The ICC's of 0.94 and 0.90 in this study shows high test-retest reliability of both subscales.…”

“…The second one is the functional status scale (FSS) that has 8 functional activities that are commonly affected by CTS (difficulty in writing, buttoning clothes, opening jars, holding a book, gripping a telephone handle, performing household chores, carrying grocery bags, bathing, and dressing). The scores also range from 1 to 5 that represent not being able to perform the activity at all (Alanazy et al., 2019 ). Since many patients were illiterate, we had to change the question asking about difficulties of writing or holding a book while reading to difficulties of using cutlery during their meals or holding their plate while eating, respectively.…”
