Abstract: Our findings suggest that Cx. quinquefasciatus populations are susceptible to and able to transmit different SLEV strains.

“…In temperate areas, arbovirus transmission is highly influenced by mosquito vector abundance [20,21]. In urban sites of central Argentina, SLEV is mainly transmitted by Culex quinquefasciatus [22] and potentially also by Culex interfor [5]. These mosquitoes’ populations have two annual peaks: a small one in late spring-early summer (November-December) and a large one in late summer-early fall (February-March) [18,19].…”

“…Cx. quinquefasciatus Say, 1823, is an important vector for St. Louis encephalitis virus (SLEV) and West Nile virus (WNV) . In Mexico and the United States, this species is one of the major vectors for WNV, but often it is unclear which vertebrate hosts are involved in the transmission cycles and what is leading to an epidemic outbreak .…”

“…There is active transmission of filariasis in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil [5,6]. This species can also transmit several arboviruses such as West Nile Virus and Saint Louis encephalitis [7][8][9][10][11].…”
