Transmission of Normal P‐Waves across a Single Joint Based on gλ Model

Abstract: This paper investigates the wave transmission and reflection of an elastic P-wave at a single joint for normal incidence. First, considering a coupled joint (correction parameter λ, 0<λ<1), a normal deformation constitutive model of the joint (g‐λ model) under static or quasi-static loading is introduced and then extended to dynamic loading. The nonlinearity of the joint stress-deformation curve increases with increasing λ. Second, the interaction between the P-wave and the joint is investigated by using… Show more

“…Because of its typical geographical location and representative seismic damage type of Longxi tunnel during the Wenchuan earthquake, some scholars have investigated the seismic damage characteristics of Longxi tunnel and the associated mechanisms [3,9,[32][33][34][35][36][37]; however, systematic assessment and classification study on seismic damage of Longxi tunnel was rarely conducted. Although Longxi tunnel is a double-line tunnel, the field investigation on the right line tunnel could not be carried out as the right line encountered severe earthquake collapse during Wenchuan earthquake.…”

“…e tested curves of P-wave are displayed in Figure 5. e damage factors are calculated by bringing the tested results of P-wave velocity into (1). In addition, the coefficient A, the average radius of cracks, and the borehole pressure are calculated with the parameters in Tables 1 and 2. e proportional coefficient, k, is fitted by the blasting experiments.…”

“…During the process of formation and evolution of rock mass, there are a lot of initial damages such as microcracks and microcavities in the interior [1,2]. Microcracks are activated, grown, and coalesced gradually to form macrocracks under the load, which finally causes the physical and mechanical properties of rock mass to be lowered and even be failed [3].…”

“…The integrity test is generally implemented by an ultrasonic method [27]. The sound velocity is related to the type of rock mass, physical and mechanical parameters, weathered degree, and density degree [28,29]. A dense and complete grouted rock mass implies a high sound velocity.…”
