Transmittance of Multi Gaussian Optical Beams for Uplink Applications in Atmospheric Turbulence

Abstract: On-axis slant path uplink transmittance (used in short as transmittance throughout the text) for multi Gaussian optical beam in Kolmogorov atmospheric turbulent medium is investigated. It is observed that for both the flat-topped and the annular beams, as the propagation distance, wind speed and the zenith angle increase, the transmittance decreases. The transmittance of flat-topped beams increases when the number of beams, source size or the wavelength increases. For the annular beam, when the outer/inner bea… Show more

“…In the last years, the propagation of light beams has attracted much attention due to potential applications in wireless optical communication (Eyyuboğlu et al 2006;Ata and Baykal 2015;Tang and Zha o 2015;Baykal 2016a;Baykal 2016b). In particular, underwater optical transmission has been a hotspot research spot due to the high demand for data transmission for underwater sensors, submarines, and underwater vehicles (Johnson et al 2014).…”

“…Turbulence is a significant phenomenon that affects an optical beam, which is also affected by absorption and scattering effects. There are numerous studies analyzing optical wave propagation in atmospheric turbulence in various aspects, such as the intensity [1] , scintillation [2] , transmittance [3][4][5][6][7][8] , and beam spreading [9] . Temperature and wind variations are dominant factors in atmospheric refractive index characteristics, and these variations are defined by Kolmogorov and non-Kolmogorov spectra.…”
