Transpiring wall supercritical water oxidation test reactor design report

Abstract: Sandia National Laboratories is working with GenCorp, Aerojet and Foster Wheeler Development Corporation to develop a transpiring wall supercritical water oxidation reactor. The transpiring wall reactor promises to mitigate problems of salt deposition and corrosion by forming a protective boundary layer of pure supercritical water. A laboratory scale test reactor has been assembled to demonstrate the concept. A 1 /4 scale transpiring wall reactor was designed and fabricated by Aerojet using their platelet tech… Show more

“…This corrosion problem has aroused the extensive attention of researchers. In order to solve this problem, anticorrosion methods like developing anticorrosion reactor, removing corrosive speices, adding a corrosion inhibitor, corrosion-monitoring methods, oxidation catalysts and new corrosion-resistant materials are being developed by many researchers (Cocero and Martıńez, 2004;Eliaz et al, 2003;Garcia and Porter, 1995;Guan et al, 2006;Haroldsen et al, 1996;Marrone and Hong, 2009;Savage, 2009;Son et al, 2006;Veriansyah et al, 2009). Many materials have been selected for corrosion test under the specific corrosive environments associated with SCWO, including austenitic stainless steels, nickel base alloys, ceramic, gold, niobium, tantalum, titanium alloys and zirconium alloys (Boukis et al, 1997;Drews et al, 2000;Friedrich et al, 1999;Fujisawa et al, 2005a;Kritzer et al, 1999;Lee et al, 2006;Orzalli, 1994;Wood and Baker, 2000;Xiao-hua, 2002).…”
