Transport Airships for Scheduled Supply and Emergency Response in the Arctic

Abstract: As climate change progresses, the Arctic Ocean creates opportunities for new resource development and navigation routes. Such economic opportunities are attractive, but carry with them an increased risk of accidents and oil spills. Existing methods of emergency response face enormous challenges in the Arctic because of its lack of transportation infrastructure and support services. Cargo airships offer a practical solution. Many airship designs are proposed that can carry over 30 tons, travel long distances at… Show more

“…Factors such as sea conditions, weather forecasts, and navigational hazards are taken into account to optimize route selection and minimize transit times. Comprehensive emergency response and contingency plans are developed to address potential accidents or incidents during CO2 ship transportation (Prentice et al, 2021). This includes training crew members in emergency procedures, conducting regular drills and exercises, and maintaining communication with shore-based emergency responders.…”

“…This section designs a simulation experiment of offshore oil spill cleanup scheduling with multiple locations and oil types to test and verify the practicality of the established model [49,50]. The proposed IGA can be used for the emergency decision making of small offshore oil spill accidents in complicated environments to decrease disaster losses.…”
