“…Competitive inhibition (cis-inhibition) of ICG uptake have been demonstrated with a number of ligands such as unconjugated bilirubin (Goresky 1964;Scharschmidt et al 1975), conjugated bilirubin (Stremmel & Berk 1986;Potter et al 1987), BSP (Wheeler et al 1958;Scharschmidt et al 1975;Schwenk et al 1976;Blom et al 1981;Stremmel & Berk 1986;Potter et al 1987;Kullak Ublick et al 1994;Kullak Ublick et al 1995), rose bengal (Stremmel et al 1993), DBSP (Blom et al 1981), and 99mTc-DISIDA (Okuda et al 1986). Mutual inhibition have also been demonstrated with ICG and some bile acids (Deutsch et al 1992), oxidized glutathione (Heijn et al 1992), and rifamycin SV (Acocella et al 1965) but may not be competitive.…”

“…Since only 2% is not bound to serum albumin this indicates that tubular secretion rather than glomerular filtration accounts for renal clearance of DBSP. Although believed to be transported by the same mechanism as BSP (Blom et al 1981), it was found that DBSP uptake into isolated rat hepatocytes (Yamazaki et al 1992) and into the perfused rat liver (Nijssen et al 1991) is energy dependent whereas BSP uptake is not. The uptake of 1-anilino-8-naphthalenesulfonate (ANS) and benzylpenicillin exhibited energy dependence but not that of rose bengal or bromophenol blue (Yamazaki et al 1992).…”
