Transtheoretical Model-based Nursing Intervention on Lifestyle Change: A Review Focused on Intervention Delivery Methods

Abstract: ICT is not yet actively used in the TTM-based nursing interventions. Stage-matched interventions and TTM concepts were shown to be in partial use also in the TTM-based interventions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a variety of ways to use ICT in tailored nursing interventions and to use TTM frameworks and concepts.

“…The evidence is particularly strong in patients with T2DM who received intensive intervention of at least 6 months, and the strong evidence substantiates the effectiveness of self-monitoring among others [ 20 ]. Despite the potential, Lee and colleagues (2015) found lack of exploration on the concurrent use of information technology with TTM [ 21 ].…”

“…The transtheoretical model (TTM) is an empirically validated model of individual behavioural change, which involves progress through a series of stages to make a particular behavioural change (Leer, Hapner, & Connor, 2008). TTM-based interventions have been applied to facilitate health behavioural changes, such as physical exercise (Pinto, Dunsiger, Farrell, Marcus, & Todaro, 2013), smoking cessation (Fanshawe et al, 2017;Spencer, Adams, Malone, Roy, & Yost, 2006) and weight management (Lee, Park, & Min, 2015), studies of which continue to demonstrate positive effects. As far as we know, there have been few studies of patients with an ostomy using TTM as an interventional tool to provide continuous and dynamic education.…”

“…Behavior change programs based on the transtheoretical model (TTM) incorporate nursing practices for lifestyle changes, such as smoking cessation, diet, and physical activity (Farrell & Keeping-Burke, 2014; J. Y. Lee, Park, & Min, 2015). The behavior modifications in the TTM involve a progression through five stages and processes of change (Prochaska, DiClemente, & Norcross, 1992).…”
