Trauma to Tumor: A Hunt of Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor–A Rare Case Report

Abstract: Tumors and tumor-like growths arising from odontogenic tissues constitute a heterogeneous group of interesting lesions, as they display the various inductive interactions that normally occur among the embryologic components of the developing tooth germ. Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor is a benign tumor, most common in the maxilla, characterized by slow, progressive, painless growth of firm consistency, the size of which usually does not reach large proportions. They are of three types: extrafollicular, follicula… Show more

“…According to Mosavat et al 2 , 75% of cases of AOT are the follicular variant associated with an unerupted tooth. According to Dwivedi et al 15 and Katiyar et al 16 , the follicular adenomatoid odontogenic tumor exhibits on radiographic examination a well-defined radiolucent unilocular area around or surrounding the roots of an unerupted tooth, with varyed degrees of calcification in its interior 3,17,18 , corroborating with the findings of the presented case.…”

“…This pathology is also called a "two-thirds tumor" because two-thirds occur in young women, two-thirds of the cases involve the maxilla, two-thirds are related to unerupted teeth and two-thirds occur with canines. Usually, the teeth involved are impacted and the adjacent teeth may be slightly dislocated (Katiyar et al, 2019). All of these findings were present in the report in question, in addition to the involvement of the upper premolars on the right side.…”

“…Bone resections should be indicated only in cases of larger tumors and may increase the risk of bone fractures 33,34 . In fact, several authors have been described favorable prognostic conditions 9,19,[35][36][37] .…”

“…The follicular type is a central intraosseus lesion associated with an impacted tooth, while extrafollicular intraosseus AOT has no relation with an unerupted tooth. The peripheral variant seems to be associated to soft tissue [6][7][8][9] .…”
