“…Although a radiographically confirmed isolated fracture of the capitate was reported in the literature as early as 1908 (Harrigan, 1908), this injury has been reported only sporadically since then. We are aware of only 51 previously reported cases (Adler and Shaftan, 1962;Apple et al, 1986;Lowrey and Cord, 1981;Young, 1986). In perhaps the most complete review of the problem, Adler and Shaftan (1962) reported six cases of isolated fracture of the capitate and reviewed 42 other cases.…”

“…Several procedures have been described. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]13 Partial wrist arthrodeses are logical solutions and include lunocapitate, scaphocapitate, and four-bone fusion, which can include the carpometacarpal fusion if the necrosis involves the entire capitate. Despite their reliability, an arthrodesis must be considered a palliative solution, as it limits the wrist range of motion.…”

“…A partial wrist arthrodesis remain the most commonly used strategy of the authors to treat lunocapitate arthritis. 2,5,6 Bone resection with interposition has been proposed to preserve mobility. Interposition of a silicone implant has been reported by Bolton-Maggs et al with good short-term result.…”
