Traumatic False Aneurysm of the Right Hepatic Artery: An Unusual Complication of Cholecystectomy

Abstract: A case of traumatic false aneurysm of the right hepatic artery causing jaundice three Months after cholecystectomy is reported. A review of the recent literature, and the role of trauma in the etiology of hepatic aneurysms, including their appropriate surgical management, are discussed.

“…Thirteen other papers on the same subject accumulated for this review showed similar results, describing a total of six pseudoaneurysms and 78 instances of RHA occlusion 5,6,31,32,34–39,44 . However, we found many reports of the negative consequences of pseudoaneurysms in the absence of a concomitant biliary injury, 52–69 but only two reports on the consequences of occlusion 25,48 . It is unlikely that concomitant biliary injury greatly influences whether a pseudoaneurysm or an arterial occlusion results when the artery is injured during a cholecystectomy.…”

“…As a consequence, they are widely used for positional astrometry of faint objects (Steinert 1987;Andersen 1971). For example, the Schmidt telescopes of the Tautenburg and Bergedorf observatories have been routinely used for astrometry for a long time.…”

“…It is well known that Schmidt cameras can be used as astrometric instruments, yielding positional accuracies to an arc second or better (Dixon 1962;Kristian and Sandage 1970;Andersen 1971;Jauncey and Durdin 1974;Stephenson 1974). Such high accuracy is often not essential, as for example, in the derivation of positions of large numbers of candidate quasi-stellar objects.…”
