Treating sunflower seeds subjected to ozonization

Abstract: Abstract:Sunflower crops (Helianthus annuus L.) are a source of pathogens that can be transmitted by means of the seeds. An alternative for the treatment of seeds can be the application of an ozone compound, which has been used in various segments to eliminate microorganisms. Three lots of the Embrapa 122 variety have been used to assess the efficacy of ozone to control pathogens in sunflowers seeds. To typify the profile of the lots we have determined the moisture content, the first germination counting, the … Show more

“…Corroborating with other authors, the ozone gas has the potential to be used in the plant pathogens control, not only in the environments disinfestation, water treatment and in the food sterilization, as well as the soybean seeds treatment, as well as other cultures of agricultural importance, as highlighted by Rodrigues et al (2015) upon evaluating the ozone potential in the sunflower seeds and corn seeds treatment (White et al, 2010(White et al, , 2013, which did not have their physiological quality negatively affected when the ozone gas was used in the microorganisms control present in the seeds.…”

“…Seeds of two soybean cultivars crop harvested in 2016/2017 (Soybean RR and Soybean Intacta RR2 PRO) were provided by the company Syngenta® and treated with ozone gas at Ozone and Life® company. Using the ozone generator, model A and L 35.0 rm, the seeds were placed in a continuous flow chamber constructed according to the specifications of Rodrigues et al (2015) and subjected to five exposure times and two concentrations, as pest control methods. After the treatments the seeds physiological quality was evaluated by the following tests and determinations:…”

“…In this study, cold plasma was generated using he-lium in atmospheric air because this gas enables the creation of reactive species at lower power levels compared with heavier gasses such as argon. Other studies have documented partial to full elimination of Fusarium using ozone or plasma devices using air or argon as feeder gases (Abbasian et al, 2017;Filatova et al, 2013;Niyomkam, 2008;Rodrigues et al, 2015) The use of cold plasma offers a new opportunity for disease control (Adhikari et al, 2020). However, additional studies are required to improve and standardize the application of cold plasma for decontamination and disinfection of agricultural crops (Adhikari et al, 2020).…”

“…The practice of using fungicides to treat maize seeds has still been the most employed by farmers. However, new technologies have been adopted in the control of fungi in grains, such as the use of ozone gas (Alencar et al, 2012;Rodrigues et al, 2015;Sanchez et al, 2016;.…”
