Treatment of Apatite Nepheline Ore Wasteenrichment Waste

Abstract: The study demonstrated the efficiency of using the cascade reaction method applied to polymineral systems treatment, including technogenic waste of apatite nepheline ore. The conditions for minerals decomposition by sulphuric acid, content, and properties of forming solid phases have been researched. The sequence for carrying out production operations has been defined; the parameters and their operation modes were optimized. It is shown that by gradually increasing the sulphuric acid concentration and temperat… Show more

“…In the hydrochloric acid system TiO 2 -SiO 2 -CaO-HCl, calcium is highly soluble, while titanium and silicon are co-precipitated as hydrated oxides. The silicon, due to its lower solubility in comparison with titanium(IV), goes into the precipitate (silica) in the first place [ 42 ]. The titanium’s (IV) solubility in the hydrochloric acid medium depends on its concentration in the HCl system ( Figure 6 ).…”

“…According to the conventional technology [2,20], titanite is recovered as a concentrate from nepheline flotation tails representing a mineral composition with average contents, wt%: 41-titanite, 27-nepheline, 20-apatite, 12-aegirine. Complexity of physical and chemical separation of the minerals is driven by large process streams and low titanite recovery-10-15% [21][22][23]. Sometimes, ore layers contain areas with titanite accumulations in the form of plate and wedge-shaped crystals characterized by crystallographic individuality (Figure 2).…”

“…The rock-forming minerals of foyaite include nepheline, microcline, orthoclase, albite, aegirine, augite, Na-Ca-and Na-amphiboles, aenigmatite, titanite, eudialyte, lamprophillite, and annite. There are a lot of studies related to titanite concentrate chemical processing [27][28][29]. Among the known technologies, sulfuric-acidic ones are the most perspective because they enable to obtain a wide spectrum of materials including titanium pigments, fillers, adhesives, tanning agents, sorbents and molecular sieves.…”
