Treatment of Distal Radius Fractures in Elderly Patients: A Review

Abstract

Elderly patients with distal radius fractures require a special approach to treatment that differs from the one used for other age groups. This is due to several factors, such as the peculiarities of epidemiology, mechanisms of injury, presence of comorbidities, decreased bone quality due to osteoporosis, and unique quality of life requirements. All these factors necessitate categorisation of the elderly patients into a separate group.
 A comprehensive review of the current literature is presented, addressing the epidemiology, examination, and treatment of distal radius fractures in elderly patients.
