Treatment of Face Veins with a Cryogen Spray Variable Pulse Width 1064 nm Nd:YAG Laser: A Prospective Study of 17 Patients

Abstract: The cryogen spray-equipped 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser was remarkably effective and safe for skin type I-IV patients. It is an excellent tool for treatment of facial telangiectasia with minimal risk of purpura. For the first time we appear to have a simple, safe, and effective treatment for 1-2 mm periorbital reticular veins. The use of topical anesthesia may be needed for some patients.

“…However, purpura can be a problem in treating larger facial veins, especially reticular veins. Eremia and Li 1 first reported 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser effective in the treatment of facial telangiectasias and reticular veins in 2002. With the 1064 nm near‐infrared laser, the wavelength is able to penetrate deeper to the vessels with minimal risk of epidermal damage.…”

“…They gave a single treatment with four different Nd:YAG lasers and reported, equal and good to excellent improvements in all lasers. Eremia and Li [25] treated face veins with the Nd:YAG laser in 17 patients and reported a greater than 50% improvement in all patients. Thus, our results of first session treatment of facial lesions are compatible with other single-treatment facial series.…”
