Treatment of Greywater by Using Artocarpus Heterophyllus Seeds as A Natural Coagulant

Abstract: In this study, Artocarpus Heterophyllus seeds is used to treat the greywater. The objectives are to characterize the functional group, zeta potential and the protein content of Artocarpus Heterophyllus seeds and to examine the performance of the seeds in treating greywater by changing the pH, coagulant dose, and mixing effect, as well as comparing them to Aluminium Sulphate (Alum). The functional groups presence in Artocarpus Heterophyllus seeds are hydroxyl group (O-H), amine group (N-H) and carboxylic group … Show more

“…Seeds protein extraction was conducted at best hot air-drying temperature that removed the moisture content in the shortest drying time. After the seeds were dried, 2 g of dry seeds was dissolved in 100 mL of distilled water which was used as the solvent for extracting the jackfruit seed protein as recommended by Cheng et al [14]. A food blender was then used to blend the mixture for 2 minutes.…”

“…It suggests a total of 20 experiments with various parameters of pH, initial dye wastewater concentration and coagulant dosage, as shown in table 2. The range of parameters is established based on the best parameter in prior experiments [14,15]. Then to prepare a stock solution, 1 g of Congo red dye powder (C 32 H 22 N 6 Na 2 O 6 S 2 ) was dissolved in 1 L of distilled water.…”
