Treatment of Vitreomacular Traction with Intravitreal Injection of Perfluoropropane

Abstract: Purpose: To evaluate the effect of one intravitreal injection of expansile gas in the treatment of vitreomacular traction (VMT). Methods: A retrospective review of eyes with VMT treated with singl injection of 0,3 ml of 100% C3F8 gas was performed. The procedure was performed on an outpatient basis under topical anesthesia. Results: Twelve consecutive patient (14 eyes) with symptomatic VMT underwent pneumatic vitreolysis. Mean extend of vitreomacular adhesion was 490,5 µm (408-751). A posterior vitreous detach… Show more

“…These studies have also reported a stage 2 MH closure rate of up to 60%. 15–19 Rodrigues and associates identified less than 750 μ m maximum horizontal vitreomacular adhesion, less than 500 μ m maximum foveal thickness, and low vitreous face reflectivity as predictors of good response to PV. 17 Most studies have reported higher success with C3F8 in comparison with SF6 for releasing VMT.…”
