Treatment selection to preserve pulp vitality and ensure complete root development in a pediatric patient

Abstract

The aim of the study was to select the most suitable treatment to preserve pulp vitality and ensure complete root development in a pediatric patient with extensive caries in immature teeth. The VIKOR method, a multicriteria decision-making tool, was used to evaluate three therapeutic alternatives. The methodology included the collaboration of a multidisciplinary team of experts in pediatric dentistry, endodontics and oral rehabilitation, who considered key criteria such as preservation of pulp vitality and long-term stability of the restoration. The results showed that pulp revascularization was the most favorable option, standing out for its ability to stimulate root development in immature teeth and minimize the risk of future fractures. The treatment was carried out following the appropriate clinical protocols and with periodic radiographic follow-up to monitor the success of the procedure. The study provided a novel approach by integrating a systematic decision-making method into pediatric dentistry, offering a solid guide for the selection of conservative treatments. It was recommended to explore future research that would expand the application of the method to other clinical cases
