Abstract:Calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD) is a cause of inflammatory arthropathy that increases in prevalence with increasing age, presents in acute and chronic forms, and is characterized by the finding of positively birefringent crystals on polarized microscopy of synovial fluid.
