“…15 Although research suggests considerable variation both temporally and geographically, two recent Canadian and American studies reported that approximately 5% of women used antidepressants at some point during their pregnancy. 16,17 The most commonly used antidepressants are serotonin reuptake inhibitors, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and selective serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. 17,18 The use of serotonin reuptake inhibitors has been associated with an increased risk of bleeding events among nonpregnant participants.…”

“…Despite general concern, the prescription drug use during pregnancy has increased in the past decades, and studies from the Nordic countries showed that about 46% to 57% of the women used a prescription drug during pregnancy . In Denmark, an increase from 44.2% in 1991‐1996 to 56.0% in 1999‐2009 was reported, although studies outside the Nordic countries showed an even higher proportion of women taking drugs during pregnancy (82.5% in the United States) . Across studies, the most commonly prescribed drug class was systemic anti‐infectives, but differences have been observed, eg, as the use had increased in Denmark, but not in Canada .…”
