Trends in Energy Management Technologies - Part 5: Effectiveness of Energy Management Systems: What the Experts Say and Case Studies Reveal

Abstract: At the Berkeley Structural Genomics Center (BSGC), our goal is to obtain a nearcomplete structural complement of proteins in the minimal organisms Mycoplasma genitalium and M. pneumoniae, two closely related pathogens. Current targets for structure determination have been selected in six major stages, starting with those predicted to be most tractable to high throughput study and likely to yield new structural information. We report on the process used to select these proteins, as well as our target deselectio… Show more

“…Note that prior research in the use of building management systems at government buildings identified similar challenges in proactivity, resources, and energy management (Webster 2005). Overall, the energy manager reports a high level of satisfaction with WebCTRL emphasizing that UC Merced trends extremely large volumes of data and that intensive monitoring needs to be undertaken deliberately, with close attention to a spectrum of issues including wiring, system programming, network architecture, and hardware selection.…”

“…Finally, a substantial body of work is dedicated to facilities' and service providers' use of building automation systems, or energy management and control systems. However, it tends to focus on questions concerning the use of HVAC data for applications external to the EMCS, and on HVAC performance diagnostics and fault detection (Friedman and Piette 2001;Heinemeier 1994;Webster 2005).…”

“…Similarly, a BMS makes operation and management easy in a complex mechanical and electrical services environment (Anon, 2005). However, design, installation, commission, and operation, building management structure and the interactions between all of these must be considered in utilising a BMS (Webster, 2005). Piper ( 2004) identified two elements of successful BMS implementation.…”
