Trends in the use of bentonite clays

Abstract: The paper gives a general description of the areas of application of bentonite clays. A number of deposits were evaluated in terms of their use in various technological processes. Analysis of directions of application of bentonite clays in foundry was carried out.Using the methods of X-ray and gas chromatographic analysis, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry and direct adsorption-structural measurements, it is shown that materials obtained from montmorillonite and heteronuclear hydroxo complexes Cr-… Show more

“…One of the most important indicators of mechanical activation of clay minerals is the effect of activation time on the strength of the mixture [6], and the results are presented in Figure 1. If we conclude from this, we can increase the strength of low-quality clays and mechanical activation of bentonites with production waste to 0.78ꞏ105 Pa (PB) and Simferopol bentonite to 0.81 [6][7][8].…”

“…One of the most important parameters of clays used in the preparation of drilling fluids resistant to thermomechanical effects is their colloidal index [11,12]. Therefore, the effect of mechanical activation time on the colloidal index of these clays was investigated and the results are presented in Figure 3.…”

“…There is a method of air purification that involves passing air through a biologically active adsorbent, as which a mixture of zeolite with ammonia-containing sawdust is used [15]. Sorption materials based on high silica zeolite are known, which also showed a high degree of purification from formaldehyde [16]. In our case, for local purification of atmospheric air from formaldehyde it was proposed to use sorption nets (mosquito nets for windows), covered with carbon sorbent.…”

“…It is known that clays and clayey soils have a specific feature to change their properties when interacting with water, i.e., exhibit structural instability. In many cities and towns, these soils create serious problems leading to accidents and catastrophes of structures interacting with these soils, subject to urbanization and technogenic development [1][2][3][4].…”
