“…These institutes disclosed trends of ABC control in 2 nationwide surveys in 2006 and 2011 and found that regarding T2DM control, the HbA 1c goal attainment rate of 32.4% in 2006 improved to a rate of 34.5% in 2011 (P , 0.001). 35 That is, there was an improvement of individual and overall attainment of DM goals during these 5 years in Taiwan. The authors anticipate that these improvements will translate into reductions of macro-and microvascular complications, in part due to the recent implementation of several DM patient care models and initiatives.…”

“…This discrepancy may indicate that Korea does not begin insulin treatment sufficient early or at an appropriate time, and this delay in the start of insulin treatment may be the reason for the poor glycemic control compared to America. However, 27.3% of the patients were treated with insulin, and yet only 34.5% exhibited HbA1c levels below 7.0% in Taiwan, which is lower than in America or in Korea, thereby making it difficult to explain the differences solely based on the portion of insulin usage [9]. There is also a difference in the implementation of education for diabetes.…”

“…Many questions about the achievement of the ABC clinical targets of type 2 diabetes remain unanswered [7][8][9][10]. For instance, most studies have been conducted in a single or small number of hospital-based clinics [11,12], and the number of studies considering the effect of clinic type on achieving the ABC clinical outcomes is limited.…”
