Abstract

The rapid development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has and will continue to shape and transform the development of education. Blended learning, as an important educational innovation, has brought about profound changes in teaching and learning. The design of blended learning environments will be an important area for researchers and practitioners in preparing students for future learning. Influenced by the initiatives of openness, digitization and sharing of resources, Open Education Resources (OER) have become an important area in blended learning. Blended learning has become the new normal in higher education. Ubiquitous learning is well supported by blended learning. Emerging technologies are changing the way we think about the nature of education, education reform, and the structure of the higher education ecosystem.This chapter explores the future development of blended learning from various aspects, such as blended learning space, OERs, ubiquitous learning, change of educational philosophy, and design of educational ecosystem. Section one discusses the definition of blended learning and the affordances of technology for blended learning space design, the trend of future development of blended learning space, and its impact on teaching and learning.
