Triamine-grafted pore-expanded mesoporous silica for CO2 capture: Effect of moisture and adsorbent regeneration strategies

Abstract: Adsorption of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) was investigated on triamine-grafted, pore-expanded MCM-41 mesoporous silica (TRI-PE-MCM-41). Measurements of adsorption capacity using mass spectrometry showed an enhanced CO 2 adsorption capacity in humid streams compared to dry CO 2 . This was corroborated with breakthrough experiments, which also showed that TRI-PE-MCM-41 offered a practically infinite selectivity towards CO 2 over nitrogen. Cyclic measurements of pure CO 2 and CO 2 :N 2 = 10:90 mixture using different … Show more

“…1): two mordenites with different Si/Al ratios and two USY zeolites with different Si/Al ratios. Of these four samples, only the CVB10a was in the Na + form, the other zeolites have NH 4 + as extra-framework cation. The NH 4 + zeolites were transformed into Na + zeolites by a three-fold ion exchange with a 0.5 molar solution of NaCl at 363 K. A reference sample of zeolite NaX was provided by CECA.…”

“…We therefore need highly selective CO 2 sorbents. That is why many aminebased solid sorbents have been studied for post-combustion CO 2 capture [3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. Amines can be immobilized on a solid support either by impregnation or by grafting [10].…”

“…Organosilanes, such as 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) [33][34][35][36][37][38], N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane [39][40][41][42], and diethylenetriamino-trimethoxysilane [39,40,43,44], have been grafted on different mesoporous silicas and evaluated their adsorption capacities toward CO 2 . The influence of amine structure [39,40,44], pore structure [45,46], amine surface density [47], stability and adsorption mechanism [34,[48][49][50] were studied. When the grafting method is used, CO 2 adsorption capacity depends on the amine density and the total nitrogen content.…”
