Tribological behavior of aluminum silicon eutectic alloy based composites under dry and wet sliding for variable load and sliding distance

Abstract: In most of the studies, the tribopair as well as tribo-components interfaces are lubricated using different lubricating oil or solid tribofilms. In the present study, the anti-friction and anti-wear performance of the tribopair is improved using nano-Aluminium Oxide (Al 2 O 3 ) and Graphene Nano Platelets (GNP) as reinforcement for composite and additive for lubricant respectively. Composite material and nano lubricants have attracted the interest of many researchers around the globe to enhance the life, durab… Show more

“…Another reason is the increment in penetration to the softer surface of disk with applied load resulting in the increase in microcracking tendency, which causes deformation and rupturing of asperities as reported in previous literature. 7 Characterization of worn-out surfaces Figure 9 represents SEM images and EDS spectrum of alloy AC and nanocomposites C3 and C4 at 40 N after 3000 m. Since applied load is low, there is no remarkable plastic deformation, confirming the mild abrasive wear. Some local scratches can be noticed on the surface of specimens.…”

“…Following this, the wear scar was examined under an optical microscope and the WV is measured using a 3D profilometer. The specific wear rate (SWR) was also calculated by using WV, load and sliding distance [28].…”

“…Since graphene was successfully separated in 2004, it has attracted attention due to its excellent tensile properties, strength, stiffness, and attractive functional properties such as high thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. Graphene or GNPs is considered to be an effective reinforcing agent for composite materials.…”
