“…The five phases of materials used to make the quintuplex composite having a composition of 20 vol% Al 2 O 3 –20 vol% TiB 2 –20 vol% TiC–20 vol% ZrB 2 –20 vol%“ZrO 2 ,” were Al 2 O 3 , TiB 2 , TiC, ZrB 2 , and “ZrO 2 .” All the possible two‐phase solid solutions or composites of Al 2 O 3 –TiC, 17,18 Al 2 O 3 –TiB 2 , 19,20 Al 2 O 3 –ZrB 2 , 21,22 Al 2 O 3 –ZrO 2 , 23 TiC–TiB 2 , 24,25 TiC–ZrB 2 , 26 TiC–ZrO 2 , 27 TiB 2 –ZrB 2 , 28 TiB 2 –ZrO 2 , 29 and ZrB 2 –ZrO 2 30,31 have been reported in the literature. Depending on the processing conditions, this information from the literature indicates that Al 2 O 3 , TiB 2 , TiC, ZrB 2 , and ZrO 2 are compatible with one another and can be fabricated as multi‐phase composites in combination with any of these materials.…”

“…But, self-mated metal pairs usually represented the severe adhesive wear, and the metal materials beared the electrochemical corrosion just because of their intrinsic (Wu et al, 2016;Ye et al, 2017). Compared with metals, the ceramic materials represented high hardness, high strength, and excellent corrosion resistance and outstanding tribological performance (Jianxin et al, 2006). So, more scientists focused on studying the tribocorrosion behavior of metals sliding against ceramics, which was considered to act as an inert antagonist in the tribocorrosion systems (Chen and Yan, 2012).…”

“…Then CaF 2 solid lubricant can be used as an addition in the fabrication of ceramic material to improve the friction characteristics. For example, the Al 2 O 3 /TiC based ceramic tool material with the combinations of CaF 2 powder possessed excellent lubricating performance especially in high-speed turning, owing to elevated temperature [35,36]. Therefore, CaF 2 was an effective and economical solid lubricant to improve the tribological properties in cutting tools.…”
