Trigger Wrist

Abstract: Trigger wrist is a relatively rare disease compared to trigger finger, which is the most common disorder found in hands. Patients with trigger wrist usually complain about the following symptoms: snapping and clicking or triggering around carpal tunnel with or without mild to moderate median neuropathy. There are a total of five cases of trigger wrist: three cases of anomalous muscle belly of flexor digitorum superficialis and two cases of fibroma around flexor tendon sheath within carpal tunnel. “…The carpal tunnel was released in all cases of the present series that were associated with CTS. The disappearance of triggering has been demonstrated in all the reports after surgical treatment [2,6,10]. Similarly, the symptoms were resolved in all patients of the present series following the surgical intervention.…”

“…In these cases, the evaluation of crepitus of intracarpal tunnel might help find an intracarpal mass. If crepitus is noticed through a slight pressure over the transverse carpal ligament, further evaluation such as MRI is warranted to differentiate the nature of tunnel-occupying lesion causing the trigger wrist [6]. In some cases of trigger wrist, the characteristic snapping or triggering around wrist might be absent.…”

“…In addition to carpal tunnel syndrome, another disorder in which aberrant muscle belly may be a contributing mechanism is trigger wrist. [23][24][25] In rare cases, trigger wrist secondary to aberrant muscle may even present with carpal tunnel syndrome. 24,26 Clinical presentations of trigger wrist include painful clicking, snapping, or catching sensation around the carpal tunnel during finger or wrist motion; in severe cases, wrist and finger motion may be limited by a triggering or locking of the joints.…”
