Triple endobuttton technique for the treatment of acute complete acromioclavicular joint dislocations: preliminary results

Abstract: Numerous procedures have been described for the operative management of acromioclavicular (AC) joint injuries. Some of these techniques, including hardware fixation and non-anatomical reconstructions, are associated with serious complications and high failure rates. Recently, AC joint reconstruction techniques have focused on anatomical restoration of the coracoclavicular ligaments to achieve optimal clinical outcomes. We used a triple endobutton technique to separately reconstruct the trapezoid and the corono… Show more

“…11,16 Because use of the native coracoacromial ligament for surgical reconstruction leads to a weaker, more pliable construct that results in a high failure rate, other techniques have gained favor. 13,16,17 One modification of the Weaver-Dunn technique involves augmenting the stabilization with a suture loop around the base of the coracoid up to the clavicle. 11 Techniques for accomplishing this type of Weaver-Dunn procedure have also since been performed arthroscopically.…”

“…To reconstruct the coracoclavicular ligaments, Yoo et al 15 used the semitendinosus tendon, Sloan et al 16 used the lateral half slip of the conjoined tendon, Lädermann et al 17 and Marchie et al 18 used suture threads, and Wei et al 19 and Salzmann et al 20 used an artificial ligament. However, of these procedures, only the method using an artificial ligament achieved reconstruction of the anatomical coracoclavicular ligaments.…”
